FAQ

Crystal Rollers

Both the White Lotus Crystal Rollers are carved from A Grade non chemically treated crystal unlike many cheaper versions available.

The Jade Roller is the traditional roller of China where they have been used for hundreds of years by the rich and powerful. Traditionally jade has been seen as a symbol or authority and was once more precious than gold.

Rose quartz rollers are a more recent development. Rose has long been considered the crystal of love all the way from ancient Egypt through to legends of clear crystal being stained red by Aphrodites Blood in Ancient Greece.

It is a slightly harder stone and therefore more difficult to carve.
Only artisans can carve Pure Rose crystal without chemically treating it to soften the stone.

Ultimately the choice comes down to personal preference. Both will give you beautiful skin with one of the most relaxing beauty rituals you will ever try.

White Lotus have been creating and selling crystal rollers since 2004

We source only the highest A grade genuine quality crystal. Crystals are graded for their quality and the level of chemical treatment they undergo to make them more malleable and easier to carve. This chemical treatment alters the structure of the crystals changing them from their natural form.

White Lotus never chemically treat its crystals unlike most manufacturers. White Lotus crystal rollers are hand carved individually by artisans and packed in a traditional silk lined box as was the original storage method.

We use only solid brackets not wire like most roller makers. The wire is think and breaks easily and when it does so it can rip the skin or damage the eye. This is why White Lotus uses its own custom mould to make stronger safer rollers.

Detailed written instructions are also provided below
The Crystal Rollers are rolled across the face in an upward and outward direction using the following steps.
1. Start on the right side of the face and repeat on the left side afterwards.
2. Unlike the micro needle roller you can use long smooth strokes.
3. Roll gently up the throat on the both sides and the middle.
4. From the chin roll out along the jaw line.
5. Gradually move upwards rolling the entire cheek area in an outwards direction.
6. From the edge of the nose roll laterally under the eyes.
7. Next roll upwards across the entire cheek
8. From the lateral corner of the eyes roll outwards across the crow’s feet.
9. From the centre of the forehead roll outwards laterally.
10. From the tip of the nose roll upwards to the hair line.
11. Continue to roll upwards across the entire forehead.
12. You can use the diagram of the microneedle roller use on the face to ensure you are rolling in the right direction.

To achieve the best results with your crystal roller first cleanse the skin with the White Lotus certified organic Ginseng and White Tea cleanser or an organic cleanser

Then apply a small amount of the Organic Green Tea Face Oil or the Activated Jade & Tourmaline Crystal Serum to the skin to be rolled. This facial oil is ideal as it contains organic green tea oil which lubricated the skin lightly to make it easier to roll across and it does not block the pores and cause breakouts.

After the treatment allow the serum to continue to penetrate deep into your skin for a warm regenerated look.

After each treatment spray the roller with the unique White Lotus Colloidal silver spray. This will kill 99.9% of bacteria. The roller can then be stored in its silk lined box which is naturally anti bacterial until its next use.

Before using the roller next time again spray it with the Colloidal silver spray and allow to dry for a minute or so.
If you are using the roller with an especially greasy product the head can be attached and washed with detergent after treatment. Do not wash the metal brackets in water as prolonged washing over time will cause corrosion.
Please view a more detailed Blog on cleaning your crystal roller here.

Many people like to do this especially in hot climates or if using the rollers after other treatments that inflame the skin.

Refrigeration will do no harm to the rollers and can be refreshing.

Generally however this is unnecessary crystals like jade are famous for the fact they stay cool even when in contact with the skin for prolonged periods.

New rollers often squeak and this is quite normal. It is simply the newly carved crystal creating a small amount of friction with the brass brackets.

Before you use the roller simply add a drop of oil to the gap between the crystal and the brass bracket at both ends and roll it through a few times.

We recommend the White Lotus Organic Green Tea oil for this purpose as the green tea oil provides a natural long lasting lubrication and the oil is both safe and beneficial if it comes in contact with the skin.

Essentially the different sizes exist for different purposes.

The larger head is our preferred roller in most cases covering the most skin gently and easily. The extra weight also adds another dimension to the rolling process.

Smaller rolling heads like that available on the double headed roller are usually used around delicate areas like the eyes.

Precaution only use crystal rollers near the eyes that have solid brackets with rounded ends like the White Lotus crystal rollers. The thin wire brackets can actually break and when exposed have sharp edges that can become lodged in the skin in these areas.

Crystal Rollers can
1. Increase and improve lymphatic drainage

2. Increase micro-circulation in the skin

3. Reduce puffiness and inflammation especially around the eyes

4. Flatten out wrinkles to reduce their appearance.

5. Lift and firm skin

Traditionally the ancient Chinese believed they could enhance qi (energy) flow and balance yin and yang in the face for a brighter more healthy appearance.

Crystal rollers naturally leave you looking younger, healthier and refreshed.

As the crystal rollers are non invasive and do not cause inflammation in the skin they can be used daily as part of any beauty ritual.

Home users can use the roller after a microneedle treatment. They are fantastic at this point at cooling the skin that can feel a little inflamed and hot after microneedling.

White Lotus uses only A grade non-chemically treated nephrite jade mined in China.

We are often asked if our jade is certified soil association organic like our skincare range. Unfortunately the Soil association or any other independent bodies do not certify the quality of crystal from China or in fact worldwide. In fact only an expert can truly differentiate the quality of crystals without the use of chemical analysis.

To overcome this White Lotus has invested heavily to monitor every step of its supply chain to ensure that the jade we use is mined in as ethical way as possible without undue environmental damage of exploitation of labour.

White Lotus have been selling high quality jade products around the world of over 15 years now and have used this time to develop high quality sourcing and quality control throughout our supply chains.

Once mined the jade crystal is hand carved in the traditional way. At no stage does the crystal undergo any chemical treatment to soften the crystal or improve its colour. The natural properties of the crystal are respected and maintained throughout the process.

This attention to detail allows White Lotus to offer our unique lifetime guarantee. This is not a popular concept in the modern world where products are designed to break to ensure future sales.

White Lotus believes that like all mined minerals the earths supply is limited. By creating jade rollers of high enough quality they will last a lifetime we believe we minimalise the impact these products produce on the world. You can read an article about this here

Gua Sha

Gua Sha are ancient skin tools used by the Chinese for millennium to rub or slide across the skin to increase blood circulation and reduce toxins in the skin. The word Gua means to rub and Sha means red due to the increased blood flow to the skin.

Crystal Gua Sha are now used extensively in modern Asian beauty treatments and are now through groups like White Lotus available to be enjoyed in the West.

Each Gua Sha Product has a detailed demonstration on the product page.

To view follow the following links Jade Gua Sha, Rose Quartz Gua Sha.

For practitioners who would like to add these treatments to their clinics we also offer a detailed Crystal Roller, Gua Sha and Cupping course.

Detailed Step by step Instructions are also printed below
1. Begin the ritual on the right hand side of the face .
2 . Do not use the Gua Sha across the throat as it can apply far more concentrated pressure
than the jade roller and can damage the delicate structures in this area .
3 . Use the “Fish Tail” end of the comb and start at the chin stroking up the line of the jaw using the fish tail to cradle the jaw line .
4 . Now stroke up the face using the flat surface of the gua sha in straight lines from the chin up and outwards over the cheeks . At the end stimulate the acupuncture point in front of the ear shown in acupuncture point diagram .
5 . This same motion can also then be performed using a gentle circling or zig zag motion for stronger stimulation .
6 . Use the long curved side of the comb and gently stroke across and outwards from the side of the nose under the eyes, continuing up and outwards across the temples .
7 . Use the long curved side of the comb to stroke from the centre of the forehead outwards . Slowly repeat this process moving up the forehead .
8 . Raise the eyebrow using the other hand and gently stroke across the eyebrow ridge to gently tonify and lift the upper eyelid area . Make sure you use the other hand to raise the skin rather than placing the Gua Sha into the eye socket .
9 . Scrape upwards over the entire forehead using the flat side of the Gua Sha .
10 . On problem wrinkles it is good to target them by stretching out the skin on either side of the wrinkle and then massaging along the wrinkle in a zig zag motion with the pointy end of the gua sha . This provides strong circulation to the base of the wrinkle .
11 . At this point you can return and stroke up the cheeks and across the forehead again with the curved side of the Gua Sha allowing the Gua Sha to contour to the cheeks for a final
gentle massage .

12 . To finish the massage place the pointed end of the gua sha in the depression in front of the ear . Stroke gently up and around the ear and then down the neck . Traditionally this is used to drain any toxins accumulated in the skin during the massage.
13 . Repeat this process on the left side of the face

All White Lotus Crystal Gua Sha are carved from A Grade non chemically treated crystal unlike many cheaper versions available.

The Jade Gua Sha is the traditional cosmetic Gua Sha of China where they have been used for hundreds of years by the rich and powerful.

Traditionally jade has been seen as a symbol or authority and was once more precious than gold.

Rose quartz Gua Sha are a more recent development. Rose has long been considered the crystal of love all the way from ancient Egypt through to legends of clear crystal being stained rose by Aphrodites Blood in Ancient Greece.

It is a slightly harder stone and therefore more difficult to carve. Only artisans can carve Pure Rose crystal without chemically treating it to soften the stone. This means pure rose quartz crystal is usually a little more expensive than jade.

Ultimately the choice comes down to personal preference. Both will give you beautiful skin with one of the most relaxing beauty rituals you will ever try.

Take the quiz to determine which crystal type is best for your skin.

To achieve the best results with your crystal Gua Sha first cleanse the skin with the White Lotus certified organic Ginseng and White Tea cleanser or an organic cleanser

Then apply a small amount of the certified organic green tea face oil with adaptogenic herbs to the skin in the area. This oil is ideal as it contains organic green tea oil which lubricates the skin allowing the Gua Sha to glide across it without blocking the pores of your skin and creating breakouts.

After the treatment allow the serum to continue to penetrate deep into your skin for a warm regenerated look.

After each treatment the Gua Sha can be washed with detergent to remove any oily residue.

When it is dry spray the roller with the unique White Lotus Colloidal silver spray.

This will kill 99.9% of bacteria.

The Gua Sha can then be stored in its silk lined box which is naturally anti bacterial until its next use.

Before using the Gua Sha next time again spray it with the Colloidal silver spray and allow it to dry for a minute or so before using it.

If the colloidal silver spray is not available then isopropyl alcohol can also be used. Make sure to allow the alcohol to dry before using the Gua sha as the alcohol will dehydrate the skin.

Many people like to do this especially in hot climates or if using the Gua Sha after other treatments that inflame the skin. Refrigeration will do no harm to the crystal Gua Sha and can be refreshing.

Generally however this is unnecessary crystals like jade are famous for the fact they stay cool even when in contact with the skin for prolonged periods.

The Jade Gua Sha can benefit -

1. Increase and improve lymphatic drainage

2. Increase micro-circulation in the skin

3. Reduce puffiness and inflammation

4. Flatten out wrinkles to reduce their appearance

The Gua Sha is incredibly effective at increasing microcirculation . A recent study showed that a Gua Sha treatment can increase microcirculation by up to 400% during and for 25 minutes after a treatment

As the crystal Gua Sha are non invasive they can be used daily as part of any beauty ritual.

Yes if using the Gua Sha at home it can be used after a micro needling or dermaroller treatment. However a crystal roller is preferable for use after a dermaroller treatment as it is more gentle than the Gua Sha on inflamed skin.

Dermaroller

This topic causes a lot of confusion for many people as there is a lot of conflicting information on the web.

Many years ago many treatments with skin needling recommended treatments every day to achieve the maximum increase in collagen.

More recent research has shown that a group of enzymes called collagenase peak about 2 weeks after treatment. These enzymes are responsible for breaking down the old misaligned collagen fibres found in scar tissue.

Most websites only talk about creating a new layer of collagen which is an important part of the treatment but not the whole story. You also need to break down the old scar tissue to create new smooth skin in the area.

By waiting 2 weeks you are allowing these enzymes to peak and start to subside before starting to create new collagen again with a new treatment.

It is also considered possible that needling every day may create a more long term level of inflammation in the skin which will not improve results. For these reasons 2 weeks is an ideal gap between treatments for great results.

You can also take the microneedling quiz to find out which needle length is best for your concern

It is common practice for many companies to assert that skin needling will only work when used in conjunction with their particular products particularly vitamin A or retinol based creams. This is simply not true. Some studies have been done using skin needling with vitamin A, but many of the best have also been done using ‘dry needling’, or the use of no products. One of the best known of these studies showed that skin needling can increase collagen induction by up to 1,000% after a single session without the addition of vitamin A (1).

That is not to say some products do not assist skin needling. Many of the natural White Lotus serums have been shown to induct collagen and reduce the side-effects of derma rolling. It is important, however to understand that skin needling can induct collagen alone and is a wonderful natural treatment that can be performed successfully without synthetic products that can contribute to unnecessary side-effects.

The use of vitamin A is unnecessary to achieve the results from microneedling which are principally from the induction of collagen. Given that Vitamin A has a degree of known toxicity even used topically and dramatically worsens the dryness caused by microneedling there does not seem to be good enough reason to use these products (2).

In clinic we have been practiced consistently for many years using a 0.5 mm microneedle roller without ever using topical anaesthetic. Nor has the need for it ever come up. Patients often report the treatment as “prickly” but rarely report the sensation as painful.

In recent years we have taught hundreds of clinicians our technique for using the microneedle rollers. In these seminars we teach the use of a 0.5mm roller with no anaesthetic. Clinicians have to practice on each other so they can experience how the treatment feels. The constant feedback has been one of surprise. Most had either heard or been taught elsewhere how painful it would be (often taught the hard way).

More recently we added a question on pain perception to the student feedback form submitted following the seminars. 100% of students have submitted the form and so far 91% of 70 students have agreed that the treatment is not painful. Bearing in mind that these treatments are being performed by clinicians using the rollers for the first time these figures are fairly convincing.

We strongly recommend against the use of numbing creams with the Lotus Roller. This works against the philosophy of White Lotus which has always been that the best results can be achieved by enhancing health when providing anti aging solutions.

1. Straight afterwards the skin can feel warm and slightly tender. It usually also feels tighter as the fibres in the area contract.

2. Visible inflammation will last less than 24 hours in most cases when using a 0.5mm derma roller.

3. Avoid direct sunlight for a week after treatment.

4. The skin feels quite dry for several days after treatment. Using the White Lotus aftercare serum will relieve this.

5. Collagen induction begins around 48 hours after treatment and the process of transformation continues for 3 - 12 months after each treatment.

6. New collagen created during a treatment will last 5 -7 years.

Yes you can perform skin needling during this period.

For extra safety we recommend you only do dry skin needling. This essentially means you use no products with the derma roller. For a product to be approved for use as a drug on pregnant women it must undergo a large scale study solely on pregnant women. No studies of this sort have been conducted on pregnant women anywhere in the world.

Some of our competitors argue that because this is a cosmetic treatment you do not have to worry. We would argue that as skin needling dramatically increases transdermal absorption we need to be more cautious than this despite us selling undoubtedly the safest and most natural derma roller product in the world.

Babies are simply too important!

Yes it is great for reducing those tell-tale lines under and around the eyes.

Some silly sites will tell you to risk your eyeball by rolling into the eye socket. This is of course silly and more importantly unnecessary.

Simply use your other hand to draw the skin under the eye down onto the bone and then you can roll safely and freely.

The skin in this area is very sensitive so it is best to stick to the 0.5mm Lotus Roller.

Light pressure is all that is required. You do not need to apply excessive pressure as this depresses the skin and changes the angle of insertion of the micro needles.

Good sharp quality needles will pass easily through the skin with reasonably light pressure making a treatment far easier to perform.

Cleaning the roller can be very simple but first some don’ts!

Don’t leave the roller in a glass or on other surfaces where the tiny needles will get damaged.Don’t use household disinfectants or other potentially toxic products on the roller. They can remain on the roller and be absorbed straight into your skin.

The simplest way is to follow the following instructions

1. Rinse quickly under running water in case there is some residue on it from the skin.

2. Spray the roller from all angles with the Lotus Roller cleaner.

3. Carefully place the roller back into its case making sure the micro needles do not touch anything else.

4. Before using again spray the roller thoroughly again.

5. Wait at least 2 minutes before using it again on the skin.

1. After the first treatment skin will often feel tighter and look fresher.

2. The increase in collagen induction begins within 48 hours of treatment. However it usually takes at least 4 weeks for superior results to be seen.

3. The results will continue to improve for 3-12 months after the treatments as a whole new collagen matrix is formed within the skin.

4. New collagen laid down lasts for a period of 5-7 years making micro needling a very long lasting treatment.

5. The collagen induction will produce a decreased appearance of lines and wrinkles and an increase in the firmness of the skin.

6. Depending on what is being treated there will also be a reduction in visible scar tissue, reduced signs of UV damage, tightening of the skin, reduced hyperpigmentation, less rosacea, thickening of the skin, reduced skin laxity, increase in scalp hair growth, a reduction in the signs of stretch marks and an improvement in cellulite.

There is a lot of conflicting and often unhelpful information on the website about skin needling.

It can get very confusing! Below we have put together a very simple set of instructions to help clear the waters for you.

Remember all White Lotus products come with full in depth instructions and support. We help you get the best out of our products.

If you are still confused we have a book and online course for sale on the website!! You can also watch demonstration videos on the product page

Step by step Instructions

1. Cleanse the skin using the White Lotus Cleanser or appropriate organic cleanser. Remember this step is important as the skin needling will increase the absorption of any products still on the skin.

2. Apply half a dropper of the White Lotus Organic Green Tea oil to the skin and gently massage into the skin.

3. Apply skin needling using the correct needle length. Roll across each area approximately 15-20 times.

4. After the treatments don’t use any products other than the serum for at least 8 hours as absorption through the skin is still increased during this time and many products are not made to be absorbed in this way.

5. Clean the roller using the White Lotus cleaner.

4. In between treatments use about 6 drops of the White Lotus serum mixed with a little water to cover the face once or twice a day.

5. A Normal course of treatments is 6 which are spaced between 2 weeks apart. This means the entire course of treatment takes around 3 months. After this you can take a month or so off and then start another course of treatment as required

White Lotus treatments adhere to 3 unique principles

Principle 1 – Use Only Natural Substances during Micro needling Treatments

All substances used before, during and after the micro needling treatments have to be natural in origin. We do not include mass produced synthetic vitamins, minerals, peptides or stem cells in this category.

Micro needling is known to dramatically increase the absorption of products through the skin making it very important we know exactly what is being absorbed.

Principle 2 – Use the Least Invasive Micro needling Techniques to Achieve the Desired Results

This is a principle which influences which needle length you choose, the length of treatment and the techniques used during treatment.

In adopting micro needling the cosmetic industry has applied its existing philosophy that excessive damage to the skin is often justified for short term results. The natural progression from this attitude is the use of more and more invasive and damaging techniques to ensure quick results at any cost.

To create holistic micro needling we need to use the shortest needles possible and cause the minimum trauma possible to achieve the desired results.

We also need to apply very specific rolling techniques to minimise any pain or side effects caused by the treatments. To do otherwise is simply creating an unnecessary burden on the body’s resources.

Principle 3 – Apply the Principals of Traditional Medicine to Improve Micro needling Treatments

The principals of traditional medicine systems such as Chinese Medicine were designed to work with the body as a whole. Excessive trauma could not be applied to one part of the body without ramifications for the rest of the body.

Achieving this holistic approach to micro needling is simple to achieve when we apply the theories of Chinese Medicine and acupuncture theory to modern micro needling. This provides us with a framework in which to work and a foundation for the treatments.

This principal leads us to a variety of possibilities for the use of micro needling combined with natural ingredients for therapeutic as well as cosmetic purposes.

Cupping

Cupping is the use of suction to attach silicon cups to the skin. This
completely natural treatment stimulates microcirculation and skin
nutrition to improve the appearance of the skin.

They are used on different parts of the body. The smaller cup is generally used for moving cupping on the face. The larger cup is usually used on the body, particularly the legs and thighs to assist stretch marks and cellulite.

Please follow this link to the product page to see a detailed video demonstration of the cups in use.

To perform facial cupping first cleanse the skin thoroughly with the White Lotus certified organic White Tea and Ginseng cleanser or an organic cleanser

Then apply a small amount of the White Lotus Certified Organic Green Tea Oil with Adaptogenic Herbs. The green tea oil base so will lubricate the skin allowing the cup to glide across the skin.

To perform a treatment on the thighs follow the same procedure.

Please follow the link to see a video demonstration of the facial cupping in action.

For practitioners please also follow this link to the White Lotus Crystal Roller, Gua Sha and Cupping online course.

Please also see the detailed instructions below

1. To use on a specific points simply squeeze the cup .
2 . While the cup is still squeezed place tightly against the skin . Let go of the cup and the cup should remain gripped to the skin by a vacuum .
3 . The skin under the cup will be visibly raised.
4 . Do not leave in the same place for more than 1 minute or temporary dark marks can appear on the skin .
5 . To perform moving cupping place a small amount of the appropriate White Lotus oil onto the skin prior to treatment and massage it into the skin .
6 . Always start on the right side of the face and then work on the left .
7. Start by placing the cup near the chin and slide upwards towards in front of the ears .
8. Repeat this 5–10 times across each area gradually moving up the face .

9. Stroke outwards from the centre of the forehead towards the hair line and then stoke up the forehead.

10. Repeat this 5–10 times across each area .
11. Moving cupping which does not leave a mark can be performed daily. If you are leaving the cups on the skin and they leave marks then the treatment should not be repeated for a week afterwards .

Please follow the link to see a video demonstration of the cupping in action.

For practitioners please also follow this link to the White Lotus Crystal Roller, Gua Sha and Cupping online course.

5 . Start by performing moving cupping stroking up
the thighs towards the trunk
6 . Cover each area 5–10 times.
7 . Moving cupping which does not leave a mark can be performed daily.
8 . For stronger stimulation use several cups, place them over the are to be treated and leave
in place for around 5 minutes.
9 . This will leave dark marks in many cases and provide stronger stimulation.
10 . If you are leaving the cups on the skin and they leave marks then the treatment should not
be repeated for a week afterwards .

Cupping can be performed twice a week if using moving cupping. If you
are leaving the cups in place to form marks for a deeper treatment then
once a week is sufficient.

Cupping can

1. Increase blood flow and microcirculation

2. Improve skin nutrition

3. Assist fluid metabolism and lymphatic drainage to reduce puffiness in the face.

4. Research has shown that cupping may help break up old connective tissue which can contribute to the signs of aging on the face and stretch marks on the lower body

Yes gentle moving facial cupping is safe during pregnancy.

Acupressure Mat

Yes you can and most people ultimately do. For your first time however we suggest you wear a t shirt or thin garment. It can take one or two sessions to get used to the mat after which you will probably prefer to lie on the mat with your bare skin.

The mats can be gently wiped down with soapy water and you can use a colloidal silver spray to kill bacteria if required.
As you are relaxing on an acupressure mat rather than exercising you do not normally sweat much so the acupressure mats require cleaning less often.

Dermastamp

The White Lotus Dermastamp is a precision skin needling tool. It
contains 117 stainless steel micro needles in a flat machine assembled
stamp, The micro needles in the stamp are 1.0mm long and 0.3 gauge.

Below are detailed step by step instructions
1. If assisting scars gently cleanse the skin using the organic cleanser or if assisting hair make sure the hair is clean.
2. Massage 8-10 drops of the Certified Organic White Lotus Organic Green Tea Oil with Adaptogenic herbs gently into the skin or spray the hair with the White Lotus Hair Restoration Spray.
3. Stamp the area lightly 10-15 times and then if required move onto the next area and repeat.
4. If working on the scalp work from front to back being very careful to cover each area thoroughly.
5. Use the device once a fortnight.
6. Continue to use the device regularly for at least three months.
7. Spray the device with the White Lotus Colloidal silver cleaner before and after use.

The stamp is most commonly used to assist scars and Hair loss.

If assisting scars cleanse the skin with the White Lotus Certified Organic Ginseng and White Tea cleanser or an organic cleanser. Then apply the White lotus organic green tea oil before using the dermastamp.

If assisting Hair restoration spray the hair first with the White Lotus Hair Restoration Spray.

Before and after using the stamp spray the micro needles with the White Lotus colloidal silver spray to kill any bacteria.

If assisting scars micro needling breaks down old misaligned collagen in the scar. It then initiates the natural wound healing cycle to create new smooth collagen in its place. Microneedling has been shown to provide an average of 206% in local collagen after a single treatment and post burn scars have reported up to an 80% improvement after a course of treatment (1,2).

Microneedling has demonstrated an improvement in the regrowth and thickening of hair. In one study of male pattern baldness 82% of patients reported a more than 50% improvement after suing micro needling for 12 weeks (3).

Silk Products

Yes all the silk products are machine washable on gentle settings up to 30C

Yes of course just be sure you have massaged the serum completely into your skin before putting on the mask
